In the morning of March 29, 2017, An Giang University organized the workshop on “Smart agriculture and information technology application in the chain of agricultural products". The workshop attracted a large number of scientists, agricultural engineers, farmers, lecturers and students from inside and outside the province. The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tran, Dr. Nguyen Thanh My - Dean of Applied Chemistry Department of Tra Vinh University, Director of My Lan Group.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Thang clarified: "In the chairmanship of the Vietnam Rice Industry Conference in An Giang in March 2017, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc continued to drive agricultural production in the direction of applying high technology, ensuring safety, quality and nutrition of the agricultural products and increasing income of people. In term of export, Vietnam has to focus on high quality markets. Mekong Delta is the national center of agricultural production, hence boosting the application of high technology will be a decisive factor for the agricultural change of the whole country. Through the workshop, the university expects the participants to discuss and contribute lots of ideas to find solutions for agricultural development towards the application of high technology, which practically serves for the markets of domestic agricultural products as well as export markets".

At the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Thanh My presented the issues in Vietnam agricultural value chain with both challenges and opportunities. In particular, Dr. Nguyen Thanh My introduced to the workshop the advantages of environment-friendly fertilizers - a product by RYNAN AgriFoods Company of My Lan Group. He also shared about the model of alternately flooded and dry rice crop helping to reduce greenhouse gas, the model of large scale "smart fields" , the model of river water monitoring float with technology 4.0. etc, in which the production will be automated with the use of the Internet and cloud computing. Products is packaged with innovative MAP gas packaging, distributed through smartphone; At the same time, consumers can trace the origin of products through the brand...

Workshop participants raised lots of questions to the speakers on the feasibility, applicability of smart fertilizers and models to improve product quality and yield. The participants also raised issues such as what conditions farmers need to apply smart solutions in production; there should be a formal assessment of the impact extent of smart fertilizer polymer shell on the environment; solutions to suggest for farmers to effectively use the applications; producing needed equipment to monitor the physiological characteristics of plants as well as an advisor team support farmers in the process of applying high technology in production...

Dr. Nguyen Thanh My supposed that the workshop had raised issues and provided opportunities for businesses, researchers and farmers to collaborate on research and development of ideas to help advance the technology in agricultural production.
