Overview of An Giang University

An Giang University (AGU) was established by Prime Ministerial Decision No. 241/1999/QĐ-TTg on December 30, 1999, building on the foundation of An Giang College of Education. The university inaugurated its first academic year on September 9, 2000. On August 13, 2019, AGU officially became a member university of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) under Prime Ministerial Decision No. 1007/QĐ-TTg.

AGU is a public higher education institution accredited for meeting national education quality standards. Its mission is to become a reputable center for high-quality human resource training, scientific research, and technology transfer, contributing effectively to economic development and social progress, while advancing the mission of VNU-HCM in the Mekong Delta region. The university operates under the guiding principles of its educational philosophy, "Constructivism – Liberalism," and upholds its core values of "Integrity, Dedication, and Creativity”.

By September 2024, An Giang University (AGU) comprises 28 affiliated and subordinate units, which include eight faculties, two departments, ten administrative offices, five centers, the Climate Change Institute, the Library, and the Pedagogical Practice School. The university employs 750 staff members, including 108 doctoral degree holders and 394 master’s degree holders. AGU offers one doctoral program, six master's programs, and 42 undergraduate programs, with over 13,000 students and school pupils currently enrolled.

Over nearly 25 years of establishment and development, with more than 39,000 graduates, AGU has made significant contributions to the training of human resources, intellectual development, and talent cultivation in An Giang province and the Mekong Delta region. The university received its educational quality accreditation on March 19, 2018, and successfully completed its second cycle of educational quality accreditation on December 25, 2023, in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Training’s standards.

In addition to its academic programs, An Giang University (AGU) has steadily solidified its reputation through high-quality scientific research projects, which have made significant contributions to the socio-economic development of both the local community and the broader region.

An Giang University (AGU) hosts a comprehensive array of political and socio-political organizations, including a Party Committee comprising 26 subordinate branches and 530 members (as of September 2024), the Labour Union with 12 sub-unions, as well as the Youth Union, the Student Association, and the Alumni Association. These entities play an integral role in fostering civic engagement and community solidarity within the university.
