On the morning of September 12, 2019, An Giang People's Committee and Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision on transferring An Giang University to be a member university of Vietnam National University of HCMC.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tan Phat - Head of the Personnel Department of VNU-HCM announced the Prime Minister's decision on transferring AGU to be a member university of VNU-HCM and also the VNU-HCM Director’s decision on the appointment and reappointment of Board of Rector of AGU.





As the representative of the provincial leaders of An Giang, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee - congratulated the Board of Rectors and all the university staff, and hoped that the University would not stop making efforts, striving with a high sense of responsibility, dedication and creativity at work, contributing to the rapid integration of AGU into the system of VNU-HCM, so that AGU will be a reliable institution in education and training of human resources, meeting the needs of socio-economic development for the local region and the whole country.
On behalf of VNU-HCM leaders, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Director awarded the decision on the appointment and reappointment and presented flowers to the Board of Rectos of AGU. The Director of VNU-HCM stated that the fact that AGU becomes a member of VNU-HCM will contribute to improving the quality of training and scientific research at AGU, thereby improving the quality of human resources and socio-economic development of An Giang and other provinces in the Mekong Delta. Simultaneously, this will contribute to developing VNU-HCM in the direction of perfecting the model of the multi-disciplinary and multi-field training and enhancing the role of serving the community.
As representative of AGU’s Board of Rectors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Thang thanked the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, VNU-HCMC and other ministries and sectors for creating favorable conditions for AGU to officially become a member university of VNU-HCM - one of the two leading universities in Vietnam and ranked 701-750 in the list of the top 1,000 best universities in the world. In addition, Mr. Vo Van Thang also summarized 4 key tasks that AGU should focus on performing in the academic year 2019-2020, affirming that the university staff will always be determined to do all things for the learners’ progress. In the joyful atmosphere of the ceremony, he also congratulated all the freshmen into the university and hoped that they will experience a great fun on each day of coming to class.





On this occasion, AGU also organized the opening ceremony of the academic year 2019-200. Besides, the University awarded scholarships of the Provincial Party Committee and the University for the best and second best candidates in the National GCSE 2019 and competency assessment exam of VNU-HCM. The leaders of An Giang also awarded certificates of merit to 6 students who achieved high results in the national Olympiad of Maths and Physics for students in 2019. In this new academic year, AGU has received over VND 1.5 billion and US$16,800 to sponsor scholarships from enterprises and organizations inside and outside the province.
