Cooperation with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam

On August 9, 2023, An Giang University (VNU-HCM) had a meeting with the delegation of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

The visit is one of the activities in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia and the 30 years of ACIAR's activities in Vietnam.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Thang, the President of An Giang University, stated that the university maintains long-term cooperation relationships with several universities and individuals in Australia. The university has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with many leading Australian universities and has had 41 staff and faculty members complete doctoral and master's programs in Australia. From 2001 until now, the university has received funding from Australia for 10 projects, notably the project "Planning and establishing a sustainable smallholder rice chain (SRP) in the Mekong Delta (AGB/2019/153)" with a total value of over 5 million AUD sponsored by ACIAR and SunRice Group.

President Vo Van Thang hoped that the Australian Embassy will continue to connect An Giang University with partners from Australia for its education scientific research enhanncement. The university also desires to have more opportunities for collaboration with the ACIAR in the future.

Mr. Mark Tattersall, Deputy Ambassador of Australia to Vietnam, thanked An Giang University for the warm welcome. He emphasized the friendly cooperative relationship between Australia and Vietnam over the past 50 years and believed that the close bond between the two countries' peoples will continue to strengthen in the future. He expressed a desire to contribute to connecting the two countries in global issues such as climate change and food security.

During the program, attendees were introduced to the notable activities during the 30 years of cooperation between ACIAR and Vietnam, including two major projects: the "Food loss in the Pangasius Catfish Value Chain of the Mekong River Basin" project (in which An Giang University participated) and the "Planning and establishing a sustainable smallholder rice chain (SRP) in the Mekong Delta" project (in which An Giang University is the national coordinating unit in Vietnam)."
