Workshop on Enhancing Leadership Skills for Faculty Members in Departments and Faculties

From February 28 to March 3, 2023, An Giang University, VNU-HCM, in collaboration with Seoul National University, organized a seminar on Enhancing Leadership Skills for Faculty Members in Departments and Faculties. The seminar is part of Component 3 of the SAHED Project framework, which aims to establish an administrative organization system, strengthen leadership capacity and development of universities.

In 2021, Viet Nam National University – HCM and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) signed a cooperation agreement to provide nearly $10 million in funding to An Giang University to implement the project of Strengthening Higher Education in Agriculture at HCMC National University (SAHED). The project will be implemented over 7 years (2021-2028). The goal of the project is to comprehensively develop the quality of education in agriculture and related fields at An Giang University, contributing to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region under conditions of climate change and social change.

Attending the seminar were HyungSook Kim and Lee Sung, professors from Seoul National University, and a delegation of experts from KOICA. An Giang University was represented by Associate Professor Vo Van Thang, President, and leaders of departments, offices, professional boards, and the project secretariat.

Speaking at the seminar, President Vo Van Thang emphasized that "the seminar is one of the meaningful and necessary topics that contribute to improving the quality of the appointed faculty." He hoped that participants would actively learn and exchange in the seminar activities. On this occasion, the President also expressed his gratitude to the professors of Seoul National University for their support and good conditions for An Giang University in implementing project activities.

At the seminar, Dr. HyungSook Kim and Prof. Lee Sung, along with other participants, engaged in various activities focusing on action learning, the urgency of change, mission and vision, the importance of leadership ability, and facilitative leadership skills. Additionally, participants also practiced group activities such as building a mission and vision for each department, proposing tasks to achieve the mission and vision, constructing descriptions of core tasks for each department/individual, suggesting ideas for implementing core tasks, and setting action plans for core tasks of each department/individual.
