On 26 October 2018, An Giang University hosted the Opening Ceremony and Final Round of the competition on “Talents in innovative startups in Mekong Delta 2018” organized by Ministry of Science and Technology and People’s Committee of An Giang Province.
The competition was to seek talented individuals and organizations with outstanding startup projects in all business disciplines; projects that supported local primary development strengths were strongly encouraged.
Attending the event were Mr. Le Quoc Cuong – Vice Rector of An Giang University, Heads of the Departments of Science and Technology of 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta, Heads of Departments in An Giang, the sponsors, 13 candidates, staff and students of An Giang University.
The Judging Panel included Mr. Pham Duc Nghiem – Deputy Head of National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development, Mr. Tang Phu An – Head of An Giang Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Tran Le Hong – Chief Officer of Department of Intellectual Properties, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tri – Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of An Giang University, and Mr. Thach Le Anh – Head of Vietnam Silicon Valley.




Mr. Le Quoc Cuong, in his Opening Speech, emphasized the importance of startups as the foundation of future successes. He hoped that the competition would help the students to gain more experience and keep up with the latest innovations. He said that An Giang University would strongly support the students’ startups and hope for future cooperation with individuals and organizations to help develop the society.
After the Opening Ceremony, the candidates had 5 minutes to introduce their projects and 3 minutes for Q&A. The criteria included project innovations, project development strategies, potentials in the market, profits, and contributions to the society.



The Judging Panel highly appreciated this year projects for their innovations and applicability in business such as products from coconut oil to prevent mosquitoes, handmade toys for kindergarten students, Mekong Smartravel, and tools for weather and wildfire forecast. It was informed that the top 5 projects would move forward to the TECHFEST VIETNAM 2018 in November in Da Nang.
