Welcoming the Delegation of the U.S General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and the 1st Anniversary of the American Hangout of AGU

Recently, An Giang University (VNU-HCM) had the honor to welcome the U.S. General Consulate's delegation in Ho Chi Minh City led by Mr. Robert J. Greenant - Deputy U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City as head of the group.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Thang - Rector of An Giang University welcomed the delegation and reviewed some activities that the AGU and the U.S. Consulate General (USCG) have done. The university also thanked the Consulate General for opening the American Hangout with many useful activities for teachers and students to learn more about the culture and country of the United States.
The university hoped to have many online programs for students to practice English and communication skills, and programs for lecturers to improve their teaching capacity, develop training programs and teaching materials. The university also hoped that USCG can consider supporting the university's projects to improve student's English proficiency as well as research capacity, the ACCESS - the English program for disadvantaged children, the STEM – the education program for high school pupils.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Robert Greenan - Deputy U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City sent his thanks to the leaders for welcoming the delegation and expressed pride in the strong relationship between the AGU and USCG. He also thanked the AGU for effectively carrying out activities at the American Hangout and affirmed that the success of this event depends heavily on the cooperation and leadership of AGU. He promised to bring many programs to the American Hangout to develop it through online forms or via Facebook. He also hoped that the two sides would have many opportunities to cooperate to benefit the university and students of An Giang province in the future.
The Deputy U.S. Consulate General informed about ongoing programs such as English language specialist programs, the Fulbright program and the Peace Corp. The Deputy also hoped that the English experts would come to Vietnam soon to support lecturers and students of AGU. Besides, the USCG shared online learning programs for lecturers and students and the Talent Fund supports students in developing research skills through projects. The USCG promised to send notices of these programs so that the AGU can apply. They would also organize exhibitions to connect schools in the US and Vietnam for more effective cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the Rector of AGU thanked the delegation for visiting and sharing information about the possibility of future cooperation between the two sides. Within the framework of the business trip, the USCG's delegation attended the 1st Anniversary of the establishment of the American Hangout with many exciting activities with lecturers and students at the AGU Library.
