On 31st May 2021, An Giang University cooperated with West Virginia University in holding the opening ceremony of the 15th workshop on “Social Work and Community Health Services.” The training was held in an online format.

The workshop aimed to providing knowledge, methods, and practical experiences of social work and community health services for lecturers, students, civil servants, and staff working in social work in departments, units, and organizations inside and outside An Giang Province.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Vo Van Thang expressed his thanks to Professor Neal Newfield and M.A James Kim for the cooperation with AGU during the past 15 years, and the Pacific Links Foundation for sponsoring the workshop. This workshop is a meaningful cooperative program between the two universities. For 15 years, the workshop has trained thousands of attendants and partly promoted social work in An Giang Province and Vietnam.

The workshop on Social Work and Community Health Services lasts from 31st May 2021 to 16th June 2021. This training workshop focuses on 12 fascinating topics (each topic will be presented in the form of a small workshop) shared by experts from West Virginia University:

(2) Common Factors in Treating Trauma
(3) Social Work Case Managers in Hospital Settings: It is More than Just Finding Charity Services for Patients
(4) Create Your Own Play: Mindfulness, Meditation, and Liberation
(5) Designing Meaningful and Culturally Relevant Activities for Persons with Dementia
(6) What’s on Your Mind? An Overview of Mental Health Programming Efforts for Community Engagement
(7) Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and/or Queer, Intersex, Asexual and/or Ally (LGBTQIA): Understanding the Basic and Mental Health Issues
(8) Identifying and Responding to People Experiencing Human Trafficking: Strategies Across Diverse Setting is an International Context
(9) Empowerment Building Strategies for Addressing Violence and Trauma in Later Life
(10) So, You Want to Work with Families: Family Therapy Basics
(11) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Treating Trauma and Anxiety
(12) Getting the response you are seeking by asking the RIGHT question! Motivational Interviewing (MI) and its effectiveness in behavior change
